Vale Beach Guide

You are only ever minutes away from a beach in the Vale of Glamorgan and they are all very different and well worth a visit.

Please note that Lifeguard cover is not available at Ogmore by Sea, Dunraven Bay, Llantwit Major (Cwm Colhuw).

Ogmore by Sea: 

Wide sand and pebble beach.  Access dependant on the tide level of the Ogmore River.  Great for walkers.

Car park: Toilets:  Disabled facilities: Seasonal refreshments: Dogs allowed all year.

 

Dunraven Bay:

Depending on the tide, at most times it's a sand and pebble bay with rock pools connected to the Wales Coast Path.  Popular for surfing and kayaking.

Cwm Nash: 

Following a picturesque walk along a tree-lined track, the beach at Cwm Nash, also known as Monknash, is a beautiful beach with a dramatic cliff backdrop.  When the tide is out rock platforms create gushing waterfalls that lead to stunning golden sands.

Dogs allowed all year.

 

Nash Point: 

Rocky shore with rugged cliffs and the lighthouse nearby.  Spectacular geology.

Cwm Colhuw (Llantwit Major): 

Rock pools and sand linked to the Wales Coast Path.  Amazing cliff top views.

Summerhouse Point: 

Quiet, flat rock beach.  Perfect for walking and angling.

Dogs allowed all year.

 

The Leys: 

One of South Wales' best shore angling beaches.  Very rocky.  Next to Aberthaw Power Station

Dogs allowed all year.

 

Fontygary Bay: 

Sheltered beach backed by cliffs.  Mixture of sand, pebbles and rock pools.

Car Park: Dogs allowed all year.

 

Porthkerry: 

Wide pebble beach, adjoining Porthkerry Country Park, with its adventure playground and wooded nature trails.  A great family day out.

Cold Knap: 

Wide pebble beach with coastal walks nearby.  Conditions are perfect for windsurfing and sea angling.

Whitmore Bay: 

Traditional seaside resort with wide sandy beaches, cafes, shops, beach huts and attractions.  Beach wheelchairs to hire (free) anytime

Jackson's Bay:

Small sandy bay linked by a footpath to Whitmore Bay.

Seasonal toilets: Dogs allowed all year

 

St Mary's Well Bay: 

Small sandy beach.  Great for fossil hunting and views to Flat Holm and Steep Holm islands.

Car Park: Dogs allowed all year.

 

Penarth Seafront: 

Great for relaxing in the seafront gardens, visiting the pier and strolling along the Esplanade with steps leading to the pebble and shingle beach.
