Barry Island Weekenders - 2020 COVID update
As a Council, we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and following guidance issued by the Government relating to events and gatherings, we are sad to announce that the Barry Island Weekender events programme will not take place this summer.
Each year we look forward to bringing diverse and exciting events to Barry Island and although restrictions on festivals and social distancing may be relaxed in the coming months, the health and safety of our audience, our staff and performers is always our top priority. Staging events would increase the risk of spreading the virus and place an unnecessary strain on the emergency services.
Furthermore the decision has been made to cancel or postpone all events across the Vale of Glamorgan up to the end of October 2020.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration said ‘We are disappointed to announce the cancellation of our hugely popular events programme this year, however in line with Government Guidance, this is the right action to take as the safety of visitors, residents and staff is paramount. The Barry Island Weekenders attracts thousands of visitors each year, and we look forward to bringing you an exciting programme in the future, when it’s safe to do so’.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is very thankful to residents of the Vale and visitors alike for their continued support of the Barry Island Weekenders.
