Wales Coast Path
No livestock, dog friendly pub with ample outdoor seating
The walk starts at one of the Vale’s most ancient and characterful pubs, the dog friendly Blue Anchor at East Aberthaw. Cross the road from the car park and take the turning almost directly opposite (Well Road). Head downhill under the stone railway bridge to reach a stile.
Cross the stile and turn left to follow a footpath which leads through woods, crosses a lane, and continues through woods to arrive after about 20 minutes to the site of the former Aberthaw Lime Works and the beautiful ponds of the Leys.
Although unidentifiable today, this is the site of an old harbour used since Roman times for exporting and trade with the other side of the Channel. The paths and ponds are the perfect place to while away a few hours with your dog before retracing your steps to the pub.
