Experience adventure racing on a small scale. Perfect for beginners looking to try something new, the Mini Burn Adventure Race caters for all. Make sure to pack a pair of running shoes and a bike - kayaks will be provided for all entrants. Embrace the atmosphere of the day and earn your medal.
This adventure race is the perfect introduction to the sport as no experience is required. Bring along family, friends and your bike, and you'll be good to go, your kayak will be provided.
Distance & phases are as follows:
2.5k Run
8k Mountain Bike
1k Kayak
1.5k Foot Navigation
1.5k Foot Navigation Phase - This phase takes entrants on a short and undulating run around the Truffle field & chicken farm at Penllyn Estate. With a little bit of pavement but a mostly grass route, you'll be well-warmed up for the rest of the event. There will be a checkpoint at the end of the run.
8k Cycling Phase - With a mix of hard and soft-packed trails, a small section of road, some ascents and descents, and plenty of mud, this phase of the course really is an adventure!
There will also be a short course option of approximately 5k which also avoids the big hill. There will be one checkpoint at the top of the hill on the long course and a second one at the end of the bike phase.
Helmets must be worn at all times. If you do not own a bike you will need to borrow one from a friend.
1k Kayaking Phase - This 1k Kayak will take entrants around 4 buoys in the lake. With plenty of water safety and support, you can focus on enjoying the water and racing around.
The kayak phase will take place midway around the bike course, giving you a reprieve. There'll be a small transition area to leave your bike, and it's recommended that entrants bring some waterproof trousers in your bag as you will get a wet bottom.
Also if you are wearing bike shoes you may want to carry your trainers as the foot orienteering phase will also take place here. There will be a checkpoint at the end of the kayak.
Orienteering Phase - Following the kayak, entrants will be given a map of all 5 checkpoints, and from here you just need to find them all, before back onto your bike to finish off the rest of the course. There will be time penalties for any checkpoints not found. There will be a finish checkpoint at the end of the course.
