About this event:
This is a guided event for families to enjoy around the coastal path near Barry Island. The route is fully accessible so buggies, mobility scooters, and wheelchairs are welcome!
The plan is for everyone to have a fun family adventure as we head out around the coastal path taking in the amazing scenery but with a few fun activities along the way! The route will include a short section of road, but soon enough we’ll be onto the coastal path and near the beach.
The total distance is 2.3 miles, but there will be lots of chances to stop, take in the amazing coastal views, and also do some fun activities for all the family to enjoy. Every child in attendance will be given one of our Ramble & Scramble activity books to take home, but we’ll also be using them along the way to spot and identify the local wildlife on offer. The route finishes back at Whitmore Bay where there is a chance to sit and have refreshments from the local places on offer.
Numbers: capped at 20 people
Transport/Parking: There is an excellent and regular train service into Barry Island, but there is also ample car parking in and around the train station.
The guided walk is being managed and run by Ramblers Cymru in partnership with Transport for Wales.

Turn your walks into story time! A guided walk for parents & toddlers!
Turn your walks into story time! A walk around Barry Island for parents and their babies/toddlers/pre-schoolers. (Pushchair friendly route!)
Join us for a creative walk to explore how to create stories for your little ones while out and about in nature. This is for all mums and dads (toddlers+ pushchairs!) who like to go for a walk but would like some ideas about how to make it more interesting for young children, how to stimulate curiosity about their surroundings and fire up their creativity. The walk will be led by writer Tracy Harris, who will provide tips, inspiration and quick exercises for story making.
Meet outside Barry Island train station.

We will start at the Barry Island Community Centre at 11am for an introduction to the day, and then go outside to explore Barry Island through film on foot.
Refreshments at lunchtime will be provided (please tell us if you have any allergies etc) and we will support you with editing your films in the afternoon back at the Community Centre.(Bring your own mobile phone, or you can work in pairs on a joint film.)
